Country music fans are rallying around Raul Malo, the frontman of The Mavericks, after he revealed his battle with cancer over the weekend.
In a heartfelt video posted on the band’s Instagram page, the 58-year-old Malo shared the news of his diagnosis. “In the last couple of years, we’ve been on a health kick, treating ourselves better, taking care of ourselves,” he said, emphasizing the importance of regular check-ups and health screenings. A routine check led to a gastrointestinal specialist visit and a subsequent CAT scan, which revealed two cancerous spots.
Malo disclosed that he will begin treatment after the Fourth of July and acknowledged that some of the band’s upcoming shows may be affected as he navigates through therapy. Despite the challenge, he expressed optimism about his manageable chemotherapy treatment, noting that many people continue with their daily activities during such therapies.
“I feel like I’m getting the best care possible,” Malo affirmed, emphasizing the importance of proactive health care and encouraging fans to prioritize their well-being.
The Mavericks announced the cancellation of their July 12 and July 14 shows in Steamboat Springs, with the July 13 Denver show rescheduled for August 25. Fans flooded social media with messages of support, assuring Malo of their love and prayers during this difficult time.
“We love you so much and support you,” one fan wrote, echoing the sentiments of many. Another expressed gratitude for Malo’s support network and anticipated celebrating his recovery soon.
As messages of encouragement pour in, Malo remains determined to fight the illness with full vigor. “Stay healthy,” he urged fans, concluding with hope to see them again soon on the road.
The news of Malo’s diagnosis has underscored the band’s unity and the profound impact of their music on fans, who are now steadfast in their support for the beloved musician.
