Summer is a prime time for country music, and the LaPorte County Fair experienced a country music takeover on Tuesday, July 9.
Nashville-based country singer Conner Smith opened the concert, performing a series of songs in the rain to warm up the audience for the headliner, Priscilla Block. Steve Mrozinski, president of the board for the LaPorte County Fair, expressed his excitement about the event, highlighting the significance of bringing talented country artists to the fair.
Mrozinski emphasized the fair’s mission to make a positive impact on the community, confident that hosting acts like Priscilla Block and Conner Smith will help achieve that goal. “We’re all trying to make it better out here for these people,” Mrozinski said. “Let’s get people out here to see everything that goes on. With all the functions that are done out here, the fair is a great way for people to see all the improvements we’ve made. I think it’s great for everybody.”
Attendees like Meghann Toole attended the concert to discover new artists and enjoy the music. “I’m really just discovering them,” Toole said. “The fair is always a lot of fun and they know how to bring in great performers.”
While Priscilla Block was the headliner, Conner Smith made a strong impression by engaging with the audience, taking selfies, giving high fives, and even inviting a fan on stage to sing with him.
The night showcased two promising talents in the country music industry, leaving fans like Schuld excited about the future of the LaPorte County Fair. “I love coming to the fair every year,” Schuld said. “It’s always a good time especially for the kids. Getting a chance to come see concerts is a lot of fun as well. They’re starting to get some bigger names and it’s awesome for La Porte County.”
The LaPorte County Fair will continue until Saturday, July 13, with the next major performance featuring Chris Young and special guest Matt Schuster on Wednesday, July 10.
