Michigan’s biggest country music celebration, the Faster Horses Festival, continued to draw tens of thousands on its second day at the Michigan International Speedway. Among the highlights of the day was an impressive performance by Lainey Wilson, who closed out the night with a dynamic set despite a wardrobe mishap.
The 32-year-old rising star from Louisiana took the stage in a purple outfit, performing atop a red truck with an orange moon setting the backdrop. Wilson kicked off her set with energetic renditions of “Hang Tight Honey,” “Straight Up Sideways,” and “Smells Like Smoke.” However, midway through her performance, she encountered a wardrobe malfunction, splitting her pants.
With microphone in hand, Wilson addressed the crowd while slipping backstage for a quick wardrobe change. “Y’all just about got a real show!” she joked, maintaining her composure and rapport with the audience.
Making her Faster Horses debut, Wilson showcased her vocal versatility, transitioning seamlessly from a rock-edged rasp to a Dolly Parton-like vibrato. Her setlist included tracks from her expanding catalog, such as the new “Out of Oklahoma” from the “Twisters” soundtrack and the atmospheric “Good Horses” from her upcoming album, “Whirlwind.”
Despite the wardrobe hiccup, Wilson’s performance was a highlight of the festival, solidifying her status as one of country music’s most promising talents.
