Eminem has ascended to the pinnacle of the Billboard Albums chart with his latest release, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce), displacing Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department after a record-breaking 12-week stint at number one.

Billboard confirmed that Eminem’s album debuted with 281,000 units sold, including 220 million streams and 114,000 digital downloads, according to Luminate. Despite receiving mixed reviews, the album has secured Eminem’s 11th number one on the Billboard chart, underscoring his enduring dominance in the music industry.

Eminem’s latest success extends his impressive career, with the last instance of an album not debuting at number one being The Slim Shady LP in 1999, aside from his 2022 greatest hits album, Curtain Call 2.

K-Pop group Enhypen’s Romance: Untold entered the chart at number two, while Zach Bryan’s Great American Bar Scene dropped to number three. The Tortured Poets Department now sits at number four, marking its first fall from the top spot since its release.

Swift, acknowledging the end of her record-setting run, expressed her gratitude on social media. “I am completely blown away by what you’ve done,” she wrote, celebrating the album’s unprecedented 12-week reign. With approximately 4.66 million units sold in the first half of 2024, The Tortured Poets Department remains the best-selling album of the year, outperforming all other top-10 physical releases combined.
