American rapper Snoop Dogg has been selected as one of the final torchbearers for the Olympic flame, leading up to the opening ceremony in Paris, France, on Friday.
Snoop Dogg will carry the torch through the streets of Saint-Denis, where the Stade de France Olympic stadium is situated. Joining him in Saint-Denis will be other notable torchbearers, including French rapper MC Solaar, actress Laetitia Casta, and retired Ukrainian pole vaulter Sergey Bubka.
The announcement prompted Snoop Dogg to share his excitement on Instagram shortly thereafter. “U ready? Paris 2024 Olympics ya digg,” he captioned a photo of himself at the Hôtel de Ville in Paris.
Since May, the Olympic torch has been making its way across France, carried by various celebrities such as actress Halle Berry and Monegasque Formula One driver Charles Leclerc.
Born and raised in the Los Angeles area, Snoop Dogg has deep connections to the city that will host the next Olympic Games in 2028.
Earlier this year, NBC announced that Snoop Dogg would serve as a special correspondent for the Olympics. “I grew up watching the Olympics and am thrilled to see the incredible athletes bring their A-game to Paris,” he commented in a statement. “It’s a celebration of skill, dedication, and the pursuit of greatness… We’re going to have some amazing competitions and, of course, I will be bringing that Snoop style to the mix. It’s going to be the most epic Olympics ever, so stay tuned.”
The 2024 Olympic Games in Paris are scheduled to run from Friday until 11 August.
