Halsey has publicly expressed regret about her return to music following criticism from fans. In a candid post on Tumblr, the singer shared her disappointment with the negative feedback she has received since releasing her new single and video, “Lucky.”
In her post, Halsey voiced frustration with fans who have been openly critical of her, stating that their harshness has overshadowed the support she once felt from them. “My own fans are hands down meaner to me than any other people on the planet,” she wrote. “Not speaking for all of you, of course. But it used to be just a minority that were awful to me and now it seems like a majority.”
Halsey, who was diagnosed with lupus and a rare T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder in 2022, had been eager to return to music. However, the negative reception to “Lucky,” the lead single from her upcoming fifth album, has caused her to reconsider her decision. The song, which incorporates elements of Britney Spears’ 2000 hit of the same name, marks her first release since her health struggles.
“It’s hard to want to engage in a space that is completely devoid of any kindness, sympathy, patience,” Halsey continued. “I don’t know man. I almost lost my life… all I could think about was getting better so I could come back and be a part of THIS again, but I don’t even know what this is anymore and I want to crawl in a hole and I regret coming back.”
The forthcoming album, which will follow “Lucky,” does not yet have a release date. Despite the current backlash, Halsey’s post underscores her emotional turmoil and the challenges of navigating public reception in her return to music.
