Gavin Rossdale, the frontman of Bush and a rock music enthusiast, is embracing his son Zuma’s budding country music career despite his personal preference for rock. Rossdale, who shares three sons—Kingston, 17, Zuma, 15, and Apollo, 10—with ex-wife Gwen Stefani, and daughter Daisy Lowe, 35, with ex Pearl Lowe, is showing full support for Zuma’s musical aspirations.

Earlier this week, Zuma performed publicly for the first time at Ole Red, the honky-tonk bar owned by his stepfather Blake Shelton in Oklahoma, where the family maintains a ranch. This debut marked a significant milestone for Zuma, who is following in Shelton’s country music footsteps.

In an interview with Us Weekly while promoting Bush’s new album, Loaded: The Greatest Hits 1994-2023, Rossdale admitted that adjusting to his son’s country music passion has been challenging. “One son loves the Pumpkins and… Zuma, he’s got the country bug,” Rossdale said with a hint of humor. He added, “I have no idea where he gets that from, but he’s got it.”

Despite his rock background, Rossdale expressed his support for Zuma’s musical endeavors but acknowledged his personal discomfort with the genre. “Blues scales — there’s a specific pentatonic scale that rock and roll uses that we’ve never used in Bush. We don’t use that… So he comes in and shows the pentatonic scale. I’m like, ‘Oh God,’” Rossdale confessed.
