Downtown N. Wilkesboro Hosts Country Music Doubleheader and Charity Dunk Event

by Barbara

Get ready to dance the night away on Saturday, Aug. 17, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., as Downtown North Wilkesboro’s Concert on the Deck series returns with an exciting country music doubleheader. Sponsored by Window World Inc., this free, family-friendly event features performances by local country artist Presley Barker, followed by the headlining act, “Songs of the South: A Tribute to Alabama.”

This month’s concert promises not only great music but also a unique community event for a good cause. In a friendly competition to support the local non-profit Our House – Child Abuse Prevention Team, North Wilkesboro and Wilkesboro Police Departments recently competed in a diaper collection drive. The department that collected the fewest diapers will face the fun consequence of participating in the “Dunk a Police Chief” event. Concertgoers can take aim at Wilkesboro Police Chief Rhodes from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., with throws priced at $2 each or three for $5. All proceeds will benefit Our House and Wilkes Youth Life Development (WYLD).

The concert will take place at the Yadkin Valley Marketplace, located at 842 CBD Loop, North Wilkesboro. The event will go on rain or shine, offering food and drinks for purchase on-site or at one of the many nearby downtown restaurants. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, and dancing shoes for a memorable summer evening filled with music and community spirit.
