Following the exclusive release of nine reimagined Meditation Mixes of John Lennon’s iconic 1973 anthem “Mind Games” via the Lumenate app earlier this year, Capitol/UMe is set to release Mind Games – The Meditation Mixes. This new edition, produced by Sean Ono Lennon, will be available digitally and as a limited edition 3LP vinyl set on October 11, just days after John and Sean’s shared birthday on October 9.
The 3LP vinyl set will be pressed on 180-gram crystal clear vinyl and housed in a triple gatefold mirror board sleeve. Notably, Side B of LP3 will feature nine unique 1.8-second mantras etched into the vinyl’s run-out grooves, creating infinite loops.
Sean Ono Lennon remarked, “You might say meditation is the ultimate mind game. These very abstract interpretations will hopefully assist you in exploring your ‘Innerverse.’ I was both thrilled and surprised when UMG decided to produce a vinyl edition. This part of the Mind Games project evolved spontaneously and feels like it is sprinkled with just the right amount of good vibes and fairy dust. (Effects may vary).”
The release of Mind Games – The Meditation Mixes follows the acclaimed Mind Games – The Ultimate Collection, a comprehensive reissue of John Lennon’s often-overlooked 1973 album. Released in July, this collection includes digital, vinyl, and CD formats, as well as two elaborate box sets: the Standard Deluxe Edition and the Super Deluxe Edition. The collection has been praised for its new remix of the original album, which was produced by Sean Ono Lennon and mixed by triple Grammy Award-winning engineer Paul Hicks. Rolling Stone lauded the “Ultimate Mixes” for their expansive stereo sound and improved clarity, while Goldmine highlighted the collection’s superior audio quality compared to previous reissues.
Mind Games – The Meditation Mixes employs various sound design techniques on the original 1973 multitrack recordings, some of which have been enhanced with additional instrumentation by Sean Ono Lennon. The mixes were engineered by Sam Gannon with additional recording handled by Scott Holingsworth.
