Country music icon Willie Nelson has announced a surprise album set for release on November 1, titled Last Leaf On The Tree. The announcement, made through Nelson’s social media channels, reveals that the album will feature unique renditions of songs by a diverse array of influential artists, including Neil Young, The Flaming Lips, Nina Simone, Beck, Tom Waits, and Sunny War.
In addition to these covers, Nelson will revisit one of his earliest tracks, “The Ghost,” from the 1960s, offering a fresh interpretation. The album will also include a new song co-written with his son, Micah Nelson, who has both curated and produced the album.
Last Leaf On The Tree marks Nelson’s 76th solo studio album. This new release follows his 75th solo album, The Border, which came out on May 31.
The Abbott, Texas native, currently on the “Outlaw Music Festival Tour,” has had a mixed performance schedule due to health concerns. Despite missing several shows, Nelson made a celebrated return at his 4th of July Picnic in Camden, New Jersey, and has continued with his tour commitments.
