Jennifer Lopez has filed for divorce from Ben Affleck, submitting the paperwork to the Los Angeles Superior Court on Tuesday. The filing comes exactly two years after the couple’s lavish wedding ceremony in Georgia.
Lopez, 55, filed “pro per,” indicating she is representing herself without legal counsel. In the documents, she has listed their date of separation as April 26, 2024.
Reports from TMZ suggest that there is no prenuptial agreement between the couple, meaning that any assets acquired during their marriage will be considered “community property.” The documents reveal that Lopez has waived her right to spousal support and is requesting that the court deny any spousal support to Affleck as well.
The decision to file follows months of speculation about the status of their marriage. The couple has been living apart and has spent significant occasions, including birthdays and their wedding anniversary, separately. Speculation about their relationship troubles intensified after Affleck did not attend the Met Gala with Lopez in May.
Lopez and Affleck were originally engaged in 2003 but called off their wedding. They rekindled their romance nearly 20 years later, marrying in Las Vegas in July 2022 before holding a larger celebration in Georgia the following month.
