Susan G. Komen®, the world’s leading breast cancer organization, has awarded country music legend Tanya Tucker the prestigious 2024 Promise Award in recognition of her unwavering commitment to the fight against breast cancer. Tucker received the honor during a live concert in Nashville on August 24, 2024.
Tucker, a longtime advocate for breast cancer awareness, has consistently supported Komen’s mission to end the disease. In 2023, she headlined the annual “Kiss Breast Cancer Goodbye” concert, raising over $30,000 for breast cancer research and patient services. Her advocacy extends beyond fundraising; Tucker has been a vocal supporter of breast cancer awareness, even dyeing her hair pink in solidarity with her friend Shirley Burns during her battle with the disease.
“Tanya Tucker not only captivates audiences with her extraordinary star power and compassion on stage, but she has also used her talents and platform to raise awareness for those affected by breast cancer,” said Paula Schneider, president and CEO of Susan G. Komen. “We are so grateful for Tanya lending her voice to several Komen initiatives over the years, and it is with great honor that we present her with the 2024 Promise Award as she continues to help us save lives.”
Joshua Daniel, Tennessee Executive Director for Susan G. Komen, echoed these sentiments, stating, “Tanya is a prominent voice in the fight against breast cancer, and we are excited to present her with the 2024 Promise Award. In presenting her with this award, we wanted to acknowledge her advocacy for this cause and express our appreciation for her ongoing support.”
The Promise Award, inspired by the commitment Susan G. Komen founder Nancy Brinker made in 1982 to end breast cancer, is given to individuals who have gone above and beyond in their philanthropy, advocacy, and dedication to those affected by the disease.
