Authorities are considering criminal charges against a man suspected of assaulting a woman during a concert at the Colorado State Fair, officials reported Thursday. The incident occurred when country music star Scotty McCreery halted his performance and addressed the alleged assailant from the stage.
In a video from the event, McCreery is seen pointing into the crowd and stopping the music, exclaiming, “That’s a lady you just hit, sir. Absolutely not. Who just hit the lady?” The North Carolina native, known for his rise to fame on “American Idol,” then called for police and security while checking on the woman’s condition.
The incident, which took place during Saturday’s concert in Pueblo, Colorado, led to boos and chants from the audience as officials intervened. McCreery, 30, condemned the act as “the definition of a coward” and instructed the alleged assailant to “get the heck out of here” before the show continued.
Paramedics evaluated the woman at the scene, but she declined transport to a hospital, according to Olga Robak from the Colorado Agriculture Department. The man involved was temporarily detained but not arrested. The case is now under review by prosecutors to determine potential criminal charges.
