The Haley Gallery at the Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum is set to unveil a new art exhibit titled Movies & Mayhem by Madmen: Inspired Sin-arama by Carlos Hernandez and John Hancock. This exhibit, running from September 26 through November 1, will showcase the unique works of renowned printmakers John Hancock and Carlos Hernandez. The display, which is free and open to the public, will feature an array of letterpress prints, collages, and screenprints.
The exhibition pays homage to the rich legacy of Hatch Show Print, known for its iconic movie posters for genres like horror, westerns, and film noir. Hancock and Hernandez have crafted a collection that blends their distinctive artistic styles with the typography and textures characteristic of Hatch Show Print. With the assistance of designer-printers Nick Larson and Sarah Budeski, Hancock has infused words and short stories into a series of letterpress prints, while Hernandez has layered vibrant colors into both his letterpress pieces and collages. The two artists also collaborated on a screenprint that integrates various typographical elements directly sourced from Hatch Show Print’s typecases.
All artworks on display in the Haley Gallery will be available for purchase, with prices and additional details provided upon request.
Opening Reception
To celebrate the exhibit’s opening, the gallery will host a reception on Thursday, September 26, from 5 to 8 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, offering an opportunity to meet the artists and explore the collection.
