The ceremony, held at the CCMA Awards in Edmonton on Saturday, marked a significant moment for the artist.
Lang, known for her aversion to accolades, acknowledged the unique significance of this honor. “Accolades and awards and record sales never mattered to me,” she said. “But this one is pretty meaningful.” She reminisced about her early career in Edmonton, where she began as a performance artist before forming the Reclines. “Coming back full circle to Edmonton wearing these boots and this outfit, it’s all very much rich with sentiment. I’m filled with absolute joy.”
During her conversation with CBC News’ Ian Hanomansing, Lang highlighted her commitment to originality, noting, “Whether it was an original song or a spin on a classic, k.d. lang always brought originality to her music and her life.”
