Janet Jackson has refuted claims that she apologized to Vice President Kamala Harris following controversial comments made during a recent interview. Representatives for the pop icon assert that she has not walked back her remarks, which included speculation about Harris’ family background.
Reports from TMZ indicated that a person named Mo Elmasri, who claimed to be Jackson’s manager, issued an apology on her behalf, expressing that Jackson “deeply respects Vice President Kamala Harris and her accomplishments.” However, Jackson’s team stated that Elmasri has “absolutely no connection” to her and confirmed that her only manager is her brother, Randy.
The backlash stemmed from Jackson’s comments in an interview with The Guardian, where she incorrectly speculated about Harris’ racial identity, stating, “Well, you know what they supposedly said? She’s not Black.” After being informed that Harris is of both Black and South Asian descent, Jackson continued, “Her father’s white.”
Jackson later admitted she wasn’t well-informed, citing her lack of recent news consumption as a factor.
