Country music sensation Mickey Guyton brought her infectious energy to the ESSENCE office this week as she prepared for the launch of her new album, House On Fire, just one day before kicking off her highly anticipated tour. Amidst her busy schedule, she delighted in sharing photos of her son, exclaiming, “Look at him, he’s just too cute.”

Before rising to fame as Mickey Guyton, she was known as Candace, growing up in the small, close-knit community of Crawford, Texas. Her upbringing was steeped in musical influences, particularly from her church, where her parents served as a deacon and deaconess. “We spent a lot of time in the church, and that was the music that we’d sing,” Guyton recalled.

A pivotal moment in her musical journey came from witnessing Whitney Houston’s iconic Super Bowl XXV rendition of the National Anthem and seeing a young LeAnn Rimes perform at a Texas Rangers game. “That was my introduction to music,” Guyton said. “There was a young person that sounded like a grown woman singing. I didn’t care what genre it was. I just wanted to be her. That was really what got me into wanting to sing.”
