Luke Bryan Weighs In on Beyoncé’s CMA Snub After Country Album Success

by Barbara

Country singer Luke Bryan has addressed the controversy surrounding Beyoncé’s exclusion from this year’s Country Music Awards, despite the success of her country-inspired album Cowboy Carter. Released in March, the album featured collaborations with legends like Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, Miley Cyrus, and Post Malone, and even included Beyoncé’s renditions of classics like “Jolene” and The Beatles’ “Blackbird.”

Despite its achievements—becoming the first album by a Black woman to reach No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart—it failed to receive a single CMA nomination and saw little airplay on country radio.

Bryan, who is co-hosting the CMAs, acknowledged the awkwardness of the situation. Speaking on SiriusXM’s Radio Andy, he said, “It’s a tricky question. Obviously, Beyoncé made a country album, and she has a lot of fans that support her. When she doesn’t get something they want, they come at you, as fans should.”

The omission has sparked discussion about the boundaries of the genre and the recognition of diverse voices in country music.
