Gilda-Nancy Horvath, an Austrian rapper, is making her voice heard through powerful hip-hop tracks that tackle racism faced by the Roma community. Her debut song, “Trushula,” emerged from her anger and frustration as she confronted the discrimination experienced by her people in Austria and beyond.
Eight years after releasing her first track, Horvath’s message has become even more pertinent amid the rise of far-right politics in Europe. In her earlier work, she takes aim at prominent figures from these movements, delivering her verses with a fierce rhythm accompanied by keyboards and drums.
Following the recent national elections in Austria, where the far-right Freedom Party (FPOe) claimed the top polling spot for the first time, Horvath expressed her determination to “denounce the lies of the far-right,” underscoring her commitment to activism through music.
