Randy Owen, the frontman of legendary country band Alabama, will be honored as a BMI Icon at the 72nd annual BMI Country Awards on November 19 in Nashville. This prestigious accolade celebrates Owen’s remarkable contributions to country music as a songwriter and his lasting influence on the genre.

The invitation-only ceremony will take place at BMI’s Nashville office and will be hosted by BMI President and CEO Mike O’Neill, alongside BMI Nashville VP of Creative Clay Bradley. “Randy Owen’s impact on country music is immeasurable, and his songwriting has left an undeniable mark on the genre,” Bradley stated. “His talents have solidified Alabama as one of the most successful country bands of all time, and his memorable melodies and relatable lyrics continue to influence countless artists that follow in his footsteps. We are honored to present him with this year’s BMI Icon Award.”

The BMI Icon Award has been previously awarded to a distinguished list of artists, including Loretta Lynn, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, and Kris Kristofferson, as well as multi-genre icons like Stevie Nicks and Carole King.

In addition to celebrating Owen, the BMI Country Awards will announce winners for Country Songwriter of the Year, Country Song of the Year, and Country Publisher of the Year. The event will also honor the songwriters and publishers behind the 50 most-performed country songs from the past year.
