Singer-songwriter Julie Williams is set to release her new EP, Tennessee Moon, on October 17, offering a blend of folk, ‘90s country, and pop that reflects her multifaceted identity. Born and raised in Florida, Williams channels her diverse musical influences into this five-song project, which she hopes will resonate with listeners on both a personal and artistic level.
“Music was always part of my life,” Williams shared with Billboard. “Every car ride with my mom was filled with ‘90s country icons like The Chicks, as well as folk legends like Indigo Girls, John Denver, and Dan Fogelberg. My dad brought another layer, playing Michael Jackson, Prince, and The Temptations. It was a constant soundtrack.”
After releasing a self-titled EP in 2023, Williams garnered attention from The Black Opry and was recognized as a member of CMT’s Next Women of Country class. She also participated in CMT and mTheory’s Equal Access program, amplifying her voice as an advocate within Nashville’s music scene.
On Tennessee Moon, Williams showcases her songwriting skills on every track, collaborating with writers like Melody Walker and Natalie Closner. The title track, “Tennessee Moon,” reflects on the final moments of a relationship, while “Reckless Road” evokes a nostalgic ‘90s country vibe, blending banjo, pedal steel, and acoustic guitar.
Williams recently kicked off her Tennessee Moon tour, which runs through November, and spoke with Billboard about her inspirations, her evolving career, and her ongoing advocacy work with The Black Opry and beyond.
