Legendary thrash metal band Sodom has released a remastered version of their iconic track “Wachturm,” originally featured on their 1992 album Tapping The Vein. Known for its heavy sound, the album marked a significant shift in the band’s style, incorporating more punk influences, which are prominently showcased in “Wachturm.”

Lead vocalist Tom Angelripper reminisced about the song’s creation, explaining, “Andy Brings, our guitarist, is a huge Ramones fan, which both Chris Witchhunter (drums) and I also appreciated. Chris was the metal advocate in the band, while I leaned more towards punk and Motörhead. It was this blend that made the track work.”

Guitarist Andy Brings added, “Chris wasn’t opposed to punk either; he was a big fan of Die Toten Hosen. At one point, we considered covering their song ‘Liebesspieler’ for Tapping The Vein, but ultimately we decided to write our own punk song, ‘Wachturm’. Although the German lyrics may sound humorous, they stem from serious experiences Chris faced with Jehovah’s Witnesses. His girlfriend at the time joined the sect and left him because of it.”

The remastered single and music video for “Wachturm” are now available, offering fans a fresh take on this classic track.
