Gashi Redefines Success with New Album Brooklyn Cowboy

Larry Gashi, known professionally as Gashi, is on a mission to reclaim the American Dream through his music. Once living the high life in Los Angeles with a major label deal and a romantic relationship, the rapper-singer-songwriter realized that the reality he envisioned was not what he truly wanted.

“I didn’t want it,” Gashi told “It was not what I signed up for. I needed to focus on the music and stop trying to be famous.” In a transformative move, Gashi ended his relationship and parted ways with his label, embarking on a journey to Muscle Shoals, Alabama, a legendary recording hub, to create his next album.

During this period, Gashi founded his own label, ORCA Sound Records, and returned to his Brooklyn roots while exploring a genre he had previously overlooked: country music. The result is his sixth album, Brooklyn Cowboy, which comprises 18 tracks that encapsulate his experiences over the past four years.

The album opens with “Dirty City,” reflecting Gashi’s newfound purpose and his reason for leaving Los Angeles: “I wish I was a cowboy / Go out riding on a range / Take off from the city / I might stop going insane.” The album features a collaboration with Wiz Khalifa on the anthem “Better,” as well as the romantic ballad “Heaven,” which captures the essence of love: “Love is all we need / It feels like lightning striking on a summer night when you give yourself to me.” Other tracks like “Comes to Light” and “Incinerate” blend country-pop and indie rock elements.

Throughout Brooklyn Cowboy, Gashi tells two intertwined love stories: one between individuals, highlighted in the wistful “Midnight Sun,” and the other focused on self-discovery through tracks like “Cold,” “Broken Sign,” and “LOML (Love of My Life).”

In a previous statement, Gashi articulated the essence of his new album: “The Brooklyn Cowboy album unfolds the story of a boy from Brooklyn, chasing the American Dream all the way to Hollywood—only to realize it had been waiting for him back home. In the glitter and heartbreak, he loses love, watches his dreams unravel, but finds himself in the ashes, rebuilding his world and shaping his destiny where love was both his undoing and his rebirth.”
