HBO is set to release Yacht Rock: A Dockumentary, the latest installment in its acclaimed Music Box film series. Premiering on November 29, the documentary offers an in-depth exploration of the soft rock movement of the 1970s, examining its unexpected resurgence over the past decade. The film highlights iconic figures of the genre, including Michael McDonald, Steely Dan, Kenny Loggins, Toto, and Christopher Cross.
Directed by Garret Price, known for his previous work on Woodstock 99: Peace, Love, and Rage and Daisy Jones & The Six, the documentary promises an engaging mix of historical insight and contemporary interviews. Price co-produces the film alongside Adam Gibbs and Madison Cross, with Jody Gerson, Marc Cimino, and Bill Simmons serving as executive producers. Geoff Chow and Sean Fennessey are also credited as co-executive producers.
The documentary features a star-studded lineup of interviews, including De La Soul’s Prince Paul, Paramore and Vampire Weekend guitarist Brian Robert Jones, Thundercat, Questlove, Mac DeMarco, Fred Armisen, and other influential music producers, journalists, and critics.
