K-pop powerhouse Stray Kids has announced the launch of an innovative music series titled SKZHOP HIPTAPE, with the first installment, HOP, set to release on December 13, 2024. Combining the group’s initials “SKZ” with “hip-hop,” the series is described by their agency as creating a “new genre” that’s hard to define.
A 24-second teaser, released on Friday, reveals the album’s logo, featuring ripples on water to symbolize the group’s aim to create a “new wave” in music. The title HOP reflects both hip-hop and the Korean concept of unity among the eight members. This announcement follows Stray Kids’ recent Billboard success, including five consecutive number-one albums on the Billboard 200 since 2022. Their latest album ATE, released in July 2024, became the best-selling K-pop album in the U.S. this year, surpassing 500,000 sales.
