Ringo Starr is venturing into country music with the announcement of his upcoming album, Thankful. The Beatles legend revealed that the album will feature collaborations with bluegrass icon Alison Krauss and serve as a preview of his larger project, Look Up, a partnership with renowned producer T Bone Burnett.
The 84-year-old drummer and singer shared that he co-wrote nine of the album’s 11 tracks with Burnett, while Bruce Sugar, his long-time engineer, played a key role in the production. Reflecting on the album’s creation, Starr expressed his excitement, stating, “I love this track. I wrote it with my producer and engineer, Bruce Sugar, and I feel we put an LA country sound to it.”
Starr, who has always been fond of country music, described the project as a deeply positive and uplifting experience. “For the lyrics, I always like to focus on the positive, and for this song in particular, about what we can be thankful for. I hope it brings you some joy, peace, and love,” he added.
The album marks a new chapter in Starr’s storied career, showcasing his passion for the genre while celebrating the connections forged with Krauss and Burnett.
