Fans of country music beyond the mainstream are in for a treat at the third annual Who’s Hoo Country Music Awards. This unique two-day event, held at The Commons on Friday and Saturday, showcases musical performances and awards across 16 categories, spotlighting independent country music artists from around the world.
Organized by the Night Owl Country Band, the Who’s Hoo Awards celebrate the creative freedom and authenticity that comes from being independent of major record labels. These artists bring an eclectic mix of sounds, spanning honky-tonk, country-infused rockabilly, western swing, Appalachian country, rodeo country, and even the imaginative “spaghetti and fantasy western” category. Yet, as noted by the Save Country Music website, the heart of independent country music remains rooted in traditional, old-school country.
The festivities kick off at 7 p.m. on Friday with four acts taking the stage, including Ernie “Sticktight” Akins from Kentucky, the Grace Scott Band from Logansport, and the event’s host, Columbus-based Night Owl Country Band.
