Sweetwater Music Hall in Mill Valley will serve as the backdrop for a powerful night of music and philanthropy on Monday, Dec. 9, as Music Heals International (MHI) presents its annual benefit concert, Women Rock, Music Heals! The event will feature multi-platinum artist Joan Osborne alongside a stellar lineup of musicians, all coming together for a cause that transcends the stage.

The concert’s primary aim is to raise funds and awareness for MHI’s mission to provide free music education to underserved children in Haiti, India, and Venezuela. Founded by Sara Wasserman, a singer-songwriter, recording artist, and producer, MHI believes in the universal power of music to heal and unite. Wasserman, who has roots in the music world through her father, Grammy-winning bassist Rob Wasserman, and the Grateful Dead’s Bob Weir, views music as a transformative tool for positive change.

“Music gives people a sense of meaning and belonging, which is a big form of healing as well,” Wasserman shared. Since its inception, MHI has used music to empower children living in extreme poverty, recovering from natural disasters, or facing disabilities. The organization’s work continues to bridge divides and inspire young people to believe in the power of their own voices.

This year’s concert holds special significance, serving as both a tribute to the late Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh, a prominent Marin figure, and a celebration of MHI’s growing legacy. Wasserman noted, “We really wanted to do something to celebrate him. It ties so many musicians together who’ve supported MHI over the years. It’s an extended part of our community.”

With Joan Osborne headlining, this benefit concert promises to be an unforgettable evening of music and healing, with all proceeds going toward Music Heals International’s mission to change lives through music.
