Shaboozey has made history by tying the record for the longest reign at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with his smash hit “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” marking an impressive 19-week stretch at the top. The track now matches the record set by Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road.”
The significance of this achievement is huge: Shaboozey has swiftly become one of country music’s brightest new stars, making waves since his breakout earlier this year with a feature on Beyoncé’s “Cowboy Carter.” His success further cements country’s dominant presence in mainstream music this year.
Reflecting on his incredible milestone, Shaboozey shared, “I can’t believe it. I spent so much of my life working and just trying to get here, and because of you guys, my life is forever changed.”
Musically, “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” fuses classic country themes of heartbreak, hard-drinking, and boot-stomping beats with a contemporary twist. The song also nods to Jack Daniels, a nod to country tradition. But Shaboozey’s success goes beyond just blending genres. He is the first Black male artist to simultaneously top both Billboard’s Hot Country Songs and Hot Country Airplay charts. “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” has held the No. 1 spot on the Hot Country Songs chart for 23 weeks and counting.
The track also stands out for sampling J-Kwon’s 2004 hit “Tipsy,” exemplifying a growing trend of blending country with elements of hip-hop and rap, alongside traditional instruments like banjo and fiddle.
In many ways, “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” has become an anthem for honky-tonk bars along Nashville’s Lower Broadway, where the fusion of hip-hop, rock, and country defines the modern sound of Americana.
