As holiday travelers flock to the beach this week, Ocean City and Rehoboth Beach are bringing the heat with live music performances at local hot spots.
A highlight of the weekend will be the debut of Sonic OCM, a new “supergroup” formed by veteran musicians from the Baltimore and Ocean City music scenes. The band will perform at Fast Eddie’s nightclub in Ocean City on Saturday, November 30 at 8 p.m. Sonic OCM promises a high-energy set focused on ’90s rock radio hits. The supergroup consists of Brian Ford (Crushing Day, The Loft) on vocals, Ron “Stretch” Thompson (Scrapple) on guitar and vocals, Idzi (Child’s Play) on bass, and Rob Minnick (Kirk McEwen Band) on drums.
Meanwhile, over at Beach Barrels, Southern rockers Chesapeake Sons will take the stage at 8 p.m. on November 30. The band, known for its roots in The Cheaters, recently released a video for their acoustic remake of The Allman Brothers Band’s classic “Midnight Rider.”
In Rehoboth Beach, Dogfish Head brewpub will host a free concert by rising country star Emma White on Saturday, November 30 at 9 p.m. The Nashville-based singer-songwriter, who originally hails from Baltimore, has garnered praise from major outlets like Rolling Stone and Billboard. White’s current tour in support of her album Little Bit Over You includes more than 100 performances this year.
Not to be outdone, Dewey Beach’s Starboard nightclub will host three nights of live music, kicking off with a “Turkey Eve” show from Lost in Paris on November 27 at 10 p.m. On Friday, Nov. 29, Just the Tip, featuring former Mr. Greengenes vocalist Bryen O’Boyle, will perform at 9:30 p.m., and Kristen & the Noise will close out the weekend on Saturday, Nov. 30 at 9:30 p.m. All Starboard shows are free with the exception of the New Year’s Eve celebration, which will feature Just the Tip ($49).
Meanwhile, Bottle & Cork nightclub in Dewey is preparing for its annual Iced Out New Year’s Eve bash on December 31, featuring DJ White Panda. Attendees are encouraged to wear white for the event, which will also feature DJ Knappy starting at 8 p.m. Tickets for the event are available for $42.
Back in Rehoboth, the Rehoboth Ale House will host Annapolis-based rock trio Pressing Strings for its annual Black Friday concert on November 29 at 7 p.m. The band is celebrating the release of their new album, Minutes to Midnight, with advance tickets strongly recommended due to previous shows selling out.
Whether you’re in the mood for rock, country, or electronic dance beats, this week promises an array of musical experiences to kick off the holiday season at the Delaware beaches.
