Country music legend Gary P. Nunn, a true icon of Texas music, is set to bring his signature sound to Huntsville on Friday, December 6. With over 40 years of performing and recording, Nunn will take the stage at the Old Town Theatre at 7 p.m. for an unforgettable evening of Lone Star country.
A key figure in the progressive country movement that emerged from Austin in the 1970s, Nunn has helped shape the face of modern country music. Known for his pioneering independent approach to the music business, Nunn continues to manage his own career, record label, and publishing companies with the support of his wife, Ruth. He is perhaps best known for his iconic song “London Homesick Blues,” which became synonymous with Texas music and served as the theme for PBS’s Austin City Limits for nearly three decades.
Nunn’s latest album, Taking Texas to the Country, showcases his ongoing evolution as an artist while staying deeply rooted in Texas traditions. The album takes listeners on a musical journey with tracks like “Deja Vu”—a cosmic cowboy trip back to a lost love—and “Down to Louisiana”, a Cajun-inspired fais do do. Other highlights include “One State of Mind”, a heartfelt homage to the Lone Star State, and “Lonesome Lone Star Blues”, a nostalgic tour of Texas cities and towns.
The album offers a range of musical styles, from reggae to dance rhythms, and is filled with Nunn’s warm, soulful vocals. The final track, “The Rest of My Life”, provides a sweet, reflective close to the album, while the title track delivers a message to Nashville about where country music truly thrives.
Tickets for this intimate performance at The Old Town Theatre can be purchased online or by calling (936) 293-8681. Don’t miss the chance to experience the music of one of Texas’ most beloved and enduring artists.
