Punjabi-Canadian producer Ikky has released a heartfelt new single, I Like You, in tribute to the late Soni Pabla, a pioneering figure in Punjabi pop music. The track features Pabla’s iconic vocals, blending his timeless sound with Ikky’s smooth production.
Pabla, who moved to Canada in the 1990s, played a crucial role in popularizing Punjabi pop music worldwide. Although he tragically passed away in 2006, his influence continues to resonate. I Like You follows Ikky’s 2022 collaboration with Pabla, She’s the One, which also honored the late artist’s legacy.
“I grew up idolizing Soni Pabla,” says Ikky. “He was one of the true pioneers of Punjabi pop, and it’s incredible to see his impact on global music. The fact that he was from Toronto, just like me, made his success even more inspiring.”
With its relaxed guitar strums and warm vocal harmonies, I Like You is a soothing homage to Pabla’s style and musical contributions. The single also arrives as Ikky prepares for upcoming tour dates in India with rising star Karan Aujla, who recently made waves on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100.
This latest release continues Ikky’s mission to keep Pabla’s spirit and influence alive in contemporary Punjabi music.
