Progressive rock music band Lucid Fly is set to return with their highly anticipated EP Fathoms, releasing on December 6. This marks the band’s first release since their 2016 album Building Castles In Air and their fifth overall. The EP represents a significant evolution for Lucid Fly, blending introspective themes with their signature atmospheric sound.
Created during the pandemic lockdown, Fathoms began as an experiment by guitarist Doug Mecca and vocalist Nikki Layne, who crafted the three-track EP with just a computer and their creative vision. The duo then brought in Grammy-nominated producer Eric Emery (known for his work with Blink-182, Starset, and Periphery) to refine the project, recording at Apex Arts Studios in North Hollywood, CA.
The EP’s sound was brought to life by drummer Jake Dick, who recorded the tracks live in the studio, while mastering was handled by Tony Lindgren at Fascination Street Studios in Sweden, renowned for his work with artists like Billie Eilish and Katatonia. The cover art was designed by Travis Smith, whose iconic visuals have adorned album covers for bands like Opeth and Devin Townsend.
Fathoms explores themes of introspection, resilience, and self-discovery, combining ethereal melodies with powerful instrumentals. The first single, “Fjord,” has already gained traction, with over 100,000 streams on Spotify, capturing listeners with its emotive vocals and haunting atmosphere.
Lucid Fly’s Fathoms is poised to reconnect with their dedicated fanbase while attracting new listeners with its intricate musicality and emotional depth. Fans can pre-save the EP and stay updated on the band’s journey via their official website.
