Jay B, the leader and main vocalist of popular K-pop group GOT7, has officially launched his first full-length solo album, Archive 1: [Road Runner], marking a significant milestone in his decade-long music career. Released on Wednesday, the album features 13 tracks, including two lead singles: the rock-inspired “Crash” and the smooth, R&B-infused “Cloud Nine.”
Speaking at a press event in Seoul, Jay B shared his excitement about the project, explaining that the album reflects his evolution as an artist. “I approached this new album with fresh, warm feelings, and I’ve included many upbeat tracks to convey my passion for energetic performances,” he said. He also discussed his ambition to experiment with various musical styles, noting the distinct vibes of his two lead tracks: “Crash,” which emphasizes performance and choreography, and “Cloud Nine,” which explores R&B sounds.
Despite the focus on his dual lead tracks, Jay B expressed a special connection to the opening song, “Baby,” a track he started working on nearly a decade ago. “I love all the songs on this album, but I have a special affection for the first track, ‘Baby,’” he revealed. “It’s filled with my genuine feelings as a rookie.”
As a solo artist, Jay B acknowledges the challenges of shouldering full responsibility for every aspect of his performance. The title Archive 1: [Road Runner], he explained, symbolizes his ongoing journey of self-improvement. “I chose the title ‘Archive’ because I feel like I have compiled my stories within it,” he said. “’Road Runner’ reflects my enthusiasm for continuous growth and progress.”
In celebration of the album’s release, Jay B will hold a solo concert titled TAPE: RE LOAD in Seoul on December 7, followed by a show in Bangkok in January. Since his debut with GOT7 in 2014, Jay B has gained recognition for his powerful vocals and leadership, with the group achieving massive hits like “A,” “Just Right,” and “Hard Carry.” Archive 1: [Road Runner] marks a new chapter in his career, showcasing his diverse musical talents and personal growth.
