K-pop sensation aespa made history at the 16th Melon Music Awards (MMA), dominating the prestigious ceremony with seven awards, including three of the night’s most coveted honors. This victory further cements the group’s standing as one of the leading forces in the global music scene.
The MMA, organized by Kakao Entertainment’s Melon platform, is one of South Korea’s most prominent music award events. Held at the Inspire Arena on Incheon’s Yeongjong Island, the event drew 13,000 fans for a thrilling four-hour show featuring live performances and a total of 27 award categories.
Aespa, SM Entertainment’s flagship girl group consisting of Karina, Giselle, Ningning, and Winter, emerged as the evening’s biggest winner. The group claimed three out of the four top awards: Artist of the Year, KakaoBank Album of the Year, and Best Song of the Year. In addition to these grand prizes, aespa took home honors for Top 10, Millions Top 10, Best Female Group, and Best Female Performance, making it a record-breaking night with seven total wins.
Aespa’s achievements this year are a testament to their continued rise in the K-pop industry, with three of their albums surpassing 1 million streams on Melon within 24 hours of release. Their hit single “Supernova,” the pre-release track from their first studio album, also set a new record, becoming the longest-running No. 1 song on Melon’s Top 100 chart for songs released in 2024.
