Country music icon Tim McGraw recently revealed that he never grows tired of performing his songs live, though there are times when vocal challenges might make certain tracks daunting. Reflecting on his extensive career, McGraw shared his approach to live performances and named a few of his favorites to sing on stage.
“There really isn’t a song I’m sick of singing live,” McGraw said, adding that the only hesitation comes when his voice feels fatigued. “There might be nights where my voice is a little tired, and I’m leery of singing certain songs because I’m not sure if I’ll hit the high notes. But that’s the only time I wish I didn’t have to sing certain ones.”
When it comes to personal favorites, McGraw admitted that his preferences often shift, especially when new material is involved. “It changes all the time,” he explained. “I think every artist will tell you that playing your new stuff is always fun. You look forward to it. The problem is, you only have room to play a couple of new songs because during the show you might have a chance to play 20 songs. The hardest thing to do is put together a setlist because you’re not going to get everybody’s favorite songs sometimes—or most of the time.”
Despite these challenges, McGraw strives to create an enjoyable experience for his audience. “You just try to create an environment that everybody’s having fun in and everybody enjoys it,” he said.
Among his all-time favorite tracks to perform are fan-favorites like Live Like You Were Dying, Cowboy in Me, and (Where the) Green Grass Grows. “Live Like You Were Dying is always something that I don’t think I could ever get away from performing live,” he noted.
With a catalog full of timeless hits, McGraw continues to captivate audiences, balancing new material with the classics that fans love to hear.
