Grammy-nominated rap music icon Doechii delivered an electrifying performance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, showcasing tracks from her latest mixtape Alligator Bites Never Heal. She performed “Denial Is a River” and “Boiled Peanuts,” captivating the audience with her precise choreography and dynamic energy.
Joined by two dancers, Doechii’s performance was a masterclass in syncopated movement, with her long braids flowing in unison as they scratched a turntable while dressed in Gucci. In a tweet following the performance, she shared the significance of the moment: “This one is for hip-hop. I felt heavily inspired by the lineage of hip-hop and how it contributes to who I am today. This is my first self-choreographed performance, and one of the most important things I wanted to highlight was my connection to Black women through hip-hop.”
The performance was a tribute to hip-hop’s rich legacy, brought to life with the collaboration of hair artist Malcom Marquez. Alligator Bites Never Heal has been met with critical acclaim, ranking No. 9 on Rolling Stone’s Best Albums of 2024 and earning Grammy nominations, including Best New Artist and Rap Album of the Year.
