Memphis, Tennessee, long known for its significant impact on the music world, could soon celebrate its hip-hop legacy with a dedicated museum, according to a new study. The proposed museum would highlight the genre’s influence on music, culture, fashion, and dance globally.
Memphis rap legend Al Kapone, known for the “Hustle and Flow” anthem “Whoop That Trick,” emphasized the city’s importance in shaping hip-hop, noting that Memphis has had a lasting influence comparable to the soul music era. A recent study suggests the museum could attract 43,000 visitors annually, bringing significant cultural and economic benefits to the city. The idea gained momentum during a Shelby County Commission meeting this week.
