Rising British melodic metal band Alyris have made their mark with the release of their debut EP Envy and Demise. Hailing from Taunton in southwest England, the group blends the aggressive elements of metal with captivating melodies, creating a distinctive sound that evokes the spirit of early 2000s melodic metal while adding a modern twist.
The band’s lineup features Luis delivering intense, harsh vocals, while Hazel contrasts with soaring melodic elements. Together with crushing guitar riffs and thunderous drums, Alyris crafts a sound that resonates with fans of bands like Lacuna Coil, Chimaira, Machine Head, and Delain. Envy and Demise is a perfect blend of nostalgia and innovation, drawing on the musical influences of each member while embracing contemporary production techniques.
One standout track, “Two Thrones,” draws inspiration from the Prince of Persia video game. The song tells the story of a prince overtaken by a demon, struggling for control of his own body and mind. The juxtaposition of Hazel and Luis’s vocals—one light, the other heavy—captures the internal battle at the heart of the song’s narrative, leading to a powerful resolution where both the prince and the demon unite in symbiosis.
The EP is now available on all major music streaming platforms, including Spotify, and is set to establish Alyris as a fresh force in the melodic metal scene.
