Grammy-nominated country music artist Steven Lee Olsen is set to bring his signature blend of heartfelt storytelling and musical talent to Vancouver Island, with performances in Sidney and Cumberland in January 2025. The country sensation, known for his global streaming success and songwriting for top country stars, will be joined by guest JoJo Wilson for a highly anticipated show at Sidney’s Mary Winspear Centre on January 16, following a performance in Cumberland on January 15.

With over 80 million global streams, Olsen’s career has taken him from a budding songwriter to an acclaimed solo artist. He first gained recognition for penning the Grammy-nominated, double-platinum hit “Blue Ain’t Your Color” for Keith Urban and “More Girls Like You” for Kip Moore. His songwriting credits also include tracks for country legends like Garth Brooks and Dallas Smith.

For Olsen, country music has always been deeply personal. “Country has always been part of who I am,” he reflects. “As a kid, I could understand the story in the songs, and I started paying attention to the lyrics. I found myself writing my own songs in my room.” His love for songwriting eventually led him to pursue his own solo career, which has seen multiple Top-10 singles, extensive touring, and a debut at the Grand Ole Opry.

Olsen’s musical roots run deep—his mother was a singer who performed until she had children, and her influence is evident in his drive to perform. “I knew I had to perform as well,” Olsen says.

The move to Nashville in his youth was a turning point for Olsen, who arrived with no backup plan. “The goal wasn’t to become famous, but to write songs,” he recalls. “I surrounded myself with people who loved the music and believed in me. It’s been 19 years, and I still love it.”

Olsen’s upcoming tour, This Country Night in Canada, will take him across Canada, from Victoria to Halifax, with 40 shows scheduled before March. Though the rigorous schedule presents challenges, especially being away from his family, Olsen is fueled by the energy of his audiences. “It’s tough, but the energy I get from the crowd makes it all worth it,” he says. “It’s going to be more fun than I’ve ever had in the business.”

Tickets for Olsen’s performance in Sidney are available online.
