The music world is mourning the loss of Casey Chaos, one of punk and heavy metal’s most electrifying performers. Casey, born Karim Chmielnski, passed away at the age of 54, leaving behind a legacy of groundbreaking contributions to the music scene.

A native of Trenton, NY, Casey’s musical journey began in Melbourne, FL, where his early exposure to hardcore pioneers like Black Flag shaped his career. He first made his mark with the band Casey & The Skatepunx, which later evolved into Disorderly Conduct, becoming a defining force in Florida’s punk scene with his unique style and commanding stage presence.

In 1990, Casey relocated to Los Angeles, where he founded Amen. The band became a defining voice in late 1990s metal, releasing influential albums such as Amen, We Have Come For Your Parents, and Death Before Musick. These records were known for their raw, unapologetic energy, and Casey’s intense performances resonated with a dedicated fanbase. He also collaborated with iconic acts, including Christian Death, contributing to their 1993 Iconologia album and performing at their celebrated reunion show.

Brian Perera, head of Cleopatra Records, recalled one particularly memorable live performance with Christian Death at the American Legion Hall in 1993. “It was an unforgettable experience,” Perera said. “I remember walking in with my friends and seeing Nicolas Cage sitting front-row, completely mesmerized by Casey’s performance.”

Casey’s talents extended beyond his live performances, earning him a Grammy Award in 2006 for his songwriting contribution to the Grammy-winning track B.Y.O.B. by System of a Down.

“Casey wasn’t just an extraordinary musician,” Perera added. “He embodied the lifestyle and spirit of punk and metal. His energy and presence will never be forgotten.”
