After a 20-year hiatus, K-pop trailblazers Baby V.O.X. have reunited for their first performance since disbanding, marking a historic return at the KBS Song Festival.
Formed in 1997, Baby V.O.X. is widely recognized as one of the pioneering K-pop groups that helped expand the genre’s global reach. The group’s most iconic lineup, which included Kim E-Z, Lee Hee-jin, Kan Mi-youn, Shim Eun-jin, and Yoon Eun-hye, released seven studio albums before disbanding in 2006.
In 2004, the group’s final album, Ride West, featured guest vocals from American artists such as Jennifer Lopez and Tupac Shakur. However, the album’s release was marred by controversy when Tupac’s freestyle rap, recorded while he was in prison, was used without clearing the sample rights. This led to a legal battle with Tupac’s mother, Afeni Shakur, forcing Baby V.O.X. to abandon the release. Though the Jennifer Lopez remix of Play was eventually released, it failed to replicate the success of their earlier hits.
By 2005, Baby V.O.X. had stopped promoting new music, and the group officially disbanded the following year, leaving behind a legacy as one of K-pop’s earliest global ambassadors. Their recent reunion performance has been met with immense excitement from longtime fans, as the group’s legacy continues to resonate in the evolving world of K-pop.
