Snoop Dogg has hinted at the release of a potential new album, S**t Out of Luck, featuring tracks that didn’t make the final cut for his highly anticipated collaboration with Dr. Dre, Missionary. Released on December 13, Missionary boasts a star-studded 16-track lineup, including collaborations with Eminem, 50 Cent, Jhené Aiko, BJ The Chicago Kid, and more.
While fans are still digesting the long-awaited project, Snoop revealed that there may be more music on the way. According to Snoop, the duo has a collection of songs that didn’t make the Missionary tracklist but could be part of a new project. “We got an idea for a project called S**t Out of Luck for the records that didn’t make the album, like six of them,” he shared.
Despite the unreleased tracks not making the final cut, Snoop assured fans there was nothing wrong with the artists or the quality of the songs. “There weren’t any ‘wack rappers,’” he explained, “It was just the songs we chose were the 16 best.” He declined to specify which tracks or artists didn’t make the final list.
Snoop also shared the behind-the-scenes process of finalizing Missionary. He recalled how after narrowing the tracklist to 16 songs, Jimmy Iovine suggested they needed one more. “When we get to 16, Jimmy Iovine come in and say, ‘You guys need one more song,’” Snoop said. This led to the addition of Thank You For Letting Me Be Myself (inspired by Sly and The Family Stone’s “Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)”), which was the final track added to the album.
Reception of Missionary has been mixed, with some fans celebrating the reunion of the West Coast rap legends, while others were surprised by the variety of songs included. In typical Snoop fashion, he responded to the feedback with grace, posting on Instagram, “I love the hate and the love. That’s why we do it. We do it because we love what we do. Thank y’all!”
With S**t Out of Luck now teased, it looks like there’s even more music to come from Snoop and Dre in the near future.
