Testament guitarist Alex Skolnick revealed that the iconic heavy metal collective Metal Allegiance is actively discussing the creation of new music, with plans to begin working on a third album in 2025. The new project will follow the band’s 2018 album, Volume II: Power Drunk Majesty.
Skolnick explained that while scheduling challenges have made progress slow, the band is determined to get started next year. “We’ve been talking about it for some time,” he said. “It’s always easier said than done, but we’re continuing to talk about it, and I’m pretty sure 2025 will be the year we get started. It might start with an EP or a single, but either way, we’re going to dive in and see how it goes.”
Since its inception in 2014, Metal Allegiance has become a powerhouse of collaboration, featuring a rotating roster of legendary musicians. The core group consists of Mark Menghi (bass), Alex Skolnick (guitar), David Ellefson (bass, Megadeth), and Mike Portnoy (drums, Dream Theater). The band initially formed through collaborative projects like HAIL! and METAL MASTERS, and their onstage renditions of classic metal anthems from bands like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Ozzy Osbourne, and Pantera eventually led to the creation of original music.
The collective has already released two full-length albums—Metal Allegiance (2015) and Volume II: Power Drunk Majesty (2018)—as well as a 2016 EP, Fallen Heroes. As excitement builds for the new music, fans can catch Metal Allegiance live in concert at the House of Blues in Anaheim, California, on January 23, 2025. The event will feature the core members alongside special guests such as Chuck Billy (Testament), Bobby “Blitz” Ellsworth (Overkill), John Bush (Armored Saint), Marty Friedman (Megadeth), and Gary Holt (Slayer, Exodus), among others.
The night will be supported by OTTTO, with opening acts Wicked and Lost Legacy. The event is sponsored by Jackson Guitars, EVH Gear, Charvel Guitars, and IK Multimedia.
