Jennie, the multifaceted member of K-pop sensation Blackpink, has revealed plans to release her debut solo studio album in 2025. The 28-year-old star made the announcement through a heartfelt 4½-minute video on YouTube, which was posted on December 23 and later linked to her official website on December 25.
In the video, Jennie expressed her hopes that her upcoming album would bring listeners closer to her personal journey. She also shared a candid sentiment: “I would not be mad even if you hate it.” The South Korean-born singer, rapper, and actress reflected on what has been a transformative year for her, marking her first with her own label, Odd Atelier (OA).
Jennie also touched on her creative process, revealing that deciding the track order was one of the most challenging aspects of making the album. “It is really my own perspective to the music,” she said. The album will feature Mantra, the empowering feminist anthem she released on October 11, which she has confirmed will serve as the lead single. The dance-pop and R&B track encourages women to stand up for each other and has garnered significant attention.
After 11 months of hard work, Jennie admitted that the process of making her solo album was a new experience for her, despite her long career in music. “I’ve never really done it on my own. I’ve always had the girls by my side, and I was always in a safe environment,” she shared.
Jennie’s upcoming solo project will make her the second Blackpink member to release a full studio album. Rosé led the way with RØSÉ on December 6, while Lisa’s LALISA follow-up, Alter Ego, is scheduled for release on February 28, 2025. Jisoo remains the last member to announce solo plans.
