Neil Young is set to release a long-lost treasure from his extensive catalog. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee announced that his unreleased 1977 album, Oceanside Countryside, will be available on February 14 via Reprise Records. The album will be part of Young’s Analog Original Series (AOS), offering fans a glimpse into his creative process from nearly five decades ago.
Recorded between May and December 1977, Oceanside Countryside features original mixes in the sequence Young intended, providing an authentic experience of his vision at the time. This album was crafted just before the release of his 1978 folk and country album Comes a Time, which produced beloved tracks like “Lotta Love” and “Human Highway.”
The album was recorded across various locations, including Triad Studios in Florida and Indigo Studios in Malibu. Young was accompanied by his close-knit band, including Ben Keith (steel guitar), Joe Osborn (bass), Karl T. Himmel (drums), and Rufus Thibodeaux (fiddle), with sessions taking place in Nashville at Crazy Mama’s. “I hope you enjoy this treasure of an Analog Original recording, recorded by Tim Mulligan, as much as I do,” Young shared in a statement. Reflecting on the album’s long delay, he added, “Listening to it now, I think I should have put it out back then.”
Fans can look forward to experiencing this previously unreleased work in all its analog glory this Valentine’s Day.
