Eurythmics’ iconic 1983 hit “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)” has reached a major milestone, with its official music video surpassing one billion views on YouTube. This achievement makes it the British synth-pop duo’s first video to join the prestigious Billion Views Club.
Directed by Chris Ashbrook, the video opens with Annie Lennox, dressed in an androgynous suit, giving a business presentation to Dave Stewart in a conference room. As Lennox sings the unforgettable opening lines — “Sweet dreams are made of this / Who am I to disagree? / I travel the world and the seven seas / Everybody’s looking for something” — the duo is transported from the mundane setting into a vibrant dream world. In this surreal, colorful landscape, they perform amidst a herd of cows on a farm, blending the whimsical with the profound.
“Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)” was both the title track and the final single from Eurythmics’ 1983 album. The song dominated the charts, hitting No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 2 on the Dance Club Songs chart. Certified gold by the RIAA in the U.S., it has inspired numerous covers, including renditions by Marilyn Manson, Dr. Alban, and JX Riders featuring Skylar Stecker.
