SpiritWorld, the genre-blending band known for their mix of country music and metal, has unveiled their latest single, “Abilene Grime,” from their upcoming album Helldorado, set for release on February 21. The track follows last month’s heavy-hitting “Western Stars & the Apocalypse,” but takes a different turn with its blend of country-western vibes and hardcore metal screams.
The first half of “Abilene Grime” delivers a honky-tonk atmosphere, with lead vocalist Stu Folsom howling over a twangy arrangement. However, the song transitions into intense, Slayer-esque metal, giving it the band’s signature gritty sound. Folsom explained that the track’s creation marked the moment when Helldorado found its true identity. “It twangs, it bangs and it has a sick video,” he said, referring to the fiery visuals directed by Todd Hailstone, filmed in Las Vegas.
The accompanying video features the band performing in a hellish landscape, with eerie, gory visuals including a priest being dragged into the underworld by a devilish creature. Helldorado continues SpiritWorld’s narrative, which began with Pagan Rhythms in 2020 and followed through DEATHWESTERN in 2022, tracing the journey of outlaws and misfits who discover a gate to hell in the desert.
