The Mavericks have announced the cancellation of upcoming performances as frontman Raul Malo continues his recovery following surgery to remove a tumor from his liver.
The band shared the news on Instagram, revealing that Malo, 59, will not be able to perform at their scheduled shows at SPACE on January 31 and February 1 due to his ongoing treatment. “Due to Raul’s continued treatment schedule, he will unfortunately no longer be performing,” the band wrote. “We’re very sorry for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding at this time.”
Malo also posted an apology for missing the shows, expressing his regret for not being able to attend the upcoming cruise event. However, he encouraged fans to still enjoy the event with the talented artists scheduled to perform, adding that The Mavericks plan to be part of next year’s cruise.
In June, Malo publicly shared his diagnosis in an emotional Instagram video, where he reflected on his health journey. “In the last couple of years, we’ve been on a health kick,” he said. “Treating ourselves a little better, taking care of ourselves, and really trying to do all the right things as far as nutrition. So, part of the health journey is to get yourself checked out, go to a doctor, take a physical, and start there.”
