Snoop Dogg is facing a storm of criticism after performing at a cryptocurrency event linked to Donald Trump ahead of the former president’s inauguration. The 53-year-old rapper took the stage Friday at the Crypto Ball held at Washington’s Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium. The event’s website hailed Trump as “America’s first ‘crypto president,'” though the former president did not attend. Instead, the evening was hosted by Trump’s appointed cryptocurrency advisor, David Sacks.
Fans quickly expressed their outrage on social media. One user wrote, “It’s time to throw @SnoopDogg in the dumpster with the rest of Trump’s white supremacist, insurrectionist allies,” while another said they had deleted all of Snoop’s music and blocked him on their accounts. Critics pointed to the rapper’s past statements, particularly a 2017 video where he vowed to criticize any artist performing at Trump’s inauguration, as evidence of his perceived hypocrisy.
